Design Engineer

Overview

A specialist engineered-solutions business is seeking a Design Engineer to support the preparation, design and technical delivery of pumping equipment solutions for wastewater and surface water applications. This is a varied role involving equipment selection, estimating, technical submissions and quotation preparation for customers operating to UK adoption and industry standards.

The role sits within a small technical/tendering function and would suit an engineering professional who enjoys customer-aligned technical problem solving, precision in documentation and contributing to a growing commercial engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Progress technical enquiries through equipment selection, cost estimation and proposal/quotation submission in line with customer requirements and internal guidelines

• Provide technically robust and commercially appropriate pumping solutions to maximise customer satisfaction and company profitability

• Prepare accurate technical designs, submissions, estimates and proposals to required standards

• Liaise with colleagues to support workload management, prioritisation and departmental efficiency

• Respond to customer requests and maintain a high level of service to secure repeat business and account retention

• Support wider business objectives by collaborating with management on development initiatives and continuous improvement activities

• Uphold strong Health & Safety and Quality standards in line with current legislation and company policies

• Engineering competency and ability to formulate detailed technical proposals

• High accuracy and attention to detail in technical documents, costings and submissions

• Strong communication skills and ability to support customers professionally

• Motivation, reliability and ability to work independently within defined boundaries

• Ability to work under pressure and meet customer deadlines effectively

• Ability to multitask and take on additional duties as required to support business operations

• IT literacy - Excel and general computer competency are required; AutoCAD is desirable but not essential

Desirable Experience

Candidates with the following will be at an advantage:

• Experience within wastewater, surface water or mechanical/electrical plant environments

• Exposure to tendering, estimating, proposals or technical sales environments

• Knowledge of pumping systems, rotating equipment or mechanical plant (training can be provided)
