Our client is a long-established engineering company specialising in the design and manufacture of high-precision grinding machines and tooling systems. Operating within the advanced manufacturing sector, the company prides itself on delivering reliable, high-quality equipment that meets the demanding standards of modern industry.
With a strong focus on innovation, engineering excellence, and teamwork, our client offers a supportive environment where engineers can develop their skills, contribute to exciting projects, and play a key role in the ongoing evolution of precision machine design.
The Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our experienced design team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer looking to build hands-on experience in mechanical design within the machinery and manufacturing industry. You’ll assist in developing new products, improving existing designs, and standardising documentation across a range of complex mechanical systems.
The role involves 3D modelling, detailed drawing creation, and close collaboration with internal departments to support manufacturing and assembly processes.
Key Responsibilities
-
Regenerate and update existing and new drawing formats in the CAD database to standardise and streamline documentation.
-
Assist the design team in improving existing products to enhance quality, cost-efficiency, and assembly performance.
-
Contribute to the design and development of new machines, sub-assemblies, fixtures, and tooling systems.
-
Perform 3D CAD modelling and drafting in Autodesk Inventor, producing detailed drawings for manufactured components and castings.
-
Prepare bills of materials (BOMs), assembly drawings, and other manufacturing documentation.
-
Liaise with production, quality, and procurement teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
-
Proficient in 3D CAD design, preferably using Autodesk Inventor.
-
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.
-
Good understanding of geometric and dimensional tolerancing (GD&T).
-
Relevant qualification such as HNC, HND, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
-
Self-motivated and capable of producing accurate, high-quality work to tight deadlines.
Desirable:
-
Some prior experience in a machinery design or manufacturing environment.
-
Familiarity with precision engineering or tooling systems.
-
Knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes.
