Role Summary
This is a hands-on role involving the development of automated manufacturing and robotic systems. The successful candidate will contribute to concept development, technical documentation, requirements definition, testing, and risk mitigation. The position requires close collaboration across departments and with clients, playing a key part in ensuring delivery of high-performance bespoke systems.
Key Responsibilities
Departmental

Contribute to the development of robotic handling, manufacturing, inspection, and assembly systems

Develop initial electromechanical system concepts, incorporating cross-functional input

Document concepts for consistent use across departments

Create technical and operator documentation for completed systems

Conduct testing and troubleshooting, documenting outcomes and suggesting improvements
-
Represent the Systems Engineering function professionally within the business and externally

Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other engineering teams
-
Support sales engineering with project proposals and client site assessments

Undertake engineering feasibility studies

Adhere to company policies and procedures
Functional

Perform documented testing of in-development equipment
-
Assist with proposals, process appraisals, and requirements definition

Create system documentation such as flow definitions, block diagrams, and manuals
-
Support R&D activities within the department
-
Produce design concepts using 3D modelling and analytical tools

Contribute to a wide range of system-level engineering tasks
Candidate Profile
Essential Experience & Skills
-
5+ years in engineering design/manufacture
-
Proven experience taking designs from concept to commissioning
-
Ability to define and apply system-level design requirements
-
Experience with technical documentation: manuals, reports, appraisals

Knowledge of qualification and acceptance testing for components/systems
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
-
Understanding of various manufacturing techniques
-
Excellent written and verbal communication
-
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
Desirable Experience
-
Familiarity with 2D/3D vision systems

Experience in manufacturing process development
-
Knowledge of ISO standards
-
Experience with SolidWorks
-
Working knowledge of industrial robotics

Understanding of PLC and electrical control systems

Software control experience (C# ideal)

Exposure to fibre-reinforced composites (e.g. carbon fibre)

Experience in producing time and material estimates
Qualifications

Degree (or equivalent training/experience) in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Software, or Systems Engineering
