The Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Design Engineer to join the team and lead the delivery of technical designs, proposals, and quotations for wastewater and surface water pumping systems.

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will take ownership of complex design projects, ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and internal quality procedures. This position requires strong technical expertise, project leadership, and communication skills, as well as the ability to mentor and develop junior team members.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the company’s ongoing success by driving technical excellence, supporting business growth, and upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer service.

 

Candidate Profile

Essential:

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering.

  • Proven experience in the design of wastewater or pumping systems.

  • Strong understanding of UK water industry regulations, standards, and design practices.

  • Excellent technical, analytical, and project management skills.

  • Proficiency with relevant design and estimating tools (e.g., simPRO, AutoCAD).

  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and accountability.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a client-focused approach.

  • Capable of managing multiple projects to tight deadlines.

  • Full, clean UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience in leading design teams within the utilities or infrastructure sectors.

  • Familiarity with design approval processes for water authorities or developers.

  • Chartered or working towards professional accreditation (CEng, IMechE, or equivalent).
